Blitz Brigade: Rival Tactics will turn the GameLoft shooter into a tactical strategy game

A while back, GameLoft released Blitz Brigade, a team-based first-person shooter similar in style to Team Fortress 2, complete with over-the-top action and characters. Now the company is spinning off that game with a new entry, Blitz Brigade: Rival Tactics. This tactical strategy game looks like it will be GameLoft’s answer to similar mobile titles like Supercell’s Clash Royale.

Like Clash Royale, Blitz Brigade: Rival Tactics looks like it will have a cartoon-like art style, but with a G.I. Joe vs Cobra influence rather than a fantasy theme. The game will allow players to select a team of eight units from a large number of hero characters, vehicles and power-ups. Your online squad will fight in PvV battles in arenas against opponents, and you can also make alliances with other players as well.

GameLoft has already set up a pre-registration page for Blitz Brigade: Rival Tactics, which you can check out at the link below. Registering and liking the game’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages will help to unlock pre-release goals for all players like getting more in-game cash, opening up crates in the game and taking part in daily challenges. There’s no word yet on when Blitz Brigade: Rival Tactics will be released.

Android O will finally bring native notification badges [Diving into Android O]

One of the rumors about Android O was that this update would finally bring iOS-like notification badges to stock Android, and it looks like that will indeed be the case.

Google officially announces Android O, Developer Preview images live now

iOS has had notification badges for a very long time now: it’s those small numbers above your app icons – whether it’s on your home screen on in your app drawer – that indicate how many unread emails or text messages you have among others. Some Android manufacturers brought that feature to Google’s OS with their own skins and launchers (most notably Samsung), but until now, stock Android didn’t have this feature.

Looking at the Developer Preview released earlier today, it’s clear that the upcoming OS will have native support built in for notification badges.

Of course, with the recently-announced Android O, that’s about to change. Looking at the Developer Preview released earlier today, it’s clear that the upcoming OS will have native support built in for notification badges. Once you go into the info panel of an application, there is a toggle that says, “Show badge.” Currently, no apps have this feature enabled, so we have no idea what Google’s take on it will look like compared to Apple’s or other Android manufacturers’, but we will be sure to keep you updated once we learn more.

Google is combining all cloud divisions into one business unit

Google Logo

In August Google made the surprise announcement that it was restructuring its organization, with a new company called Alphabet set to act as the head, with Google and several other new companies under it. As the changes continue, yesterday afternoon Google announced it plans to combine all of its cloud-based divisions into one business unit.

The new cloud business has yet to be named, but we do know it will include elements like Google Apps and Google for Work. In a formal blog post, Sundar revealed that newcomer Diane Greene will be at the head of this business unit. While she’s new to Google, Greene is the co-founder and former CEO of VMWare, so she is well equipped for the job.

Additionally, Greene brings with her a new startup called Bebop, which is a “new development platform that makes it easy to build and maintain enterprise applications”.

So why make these changes? As Sundar Pichai puts it, “This new business will bring together product, engineering, marketing and sales and allow us to operate in a much more integrated, coordinated fashion.” With the cloud continuing to play an increasingly vital role, it really makes sense that Google would want to unify its efforts under one roof.

From the sounds of it, this business unit will actually reside under Google’s umbrella, as a sub-company of sorts, though not all the specifics are known just yet. Even the name of this new organization is unclear at this time, though we’ll be sure to update our readers with more details as we learn more.

T-Mobile Kicks it into Overdrive with LG V10 – pre-register now

LG V10 T-mobile preregister

If you haven’t seen the specs for the new LG V10 yet, it’s looking like one of the contending no-compromise Android devices of the fall lineup. Fortunately, T-Mobile has announced that they will be launching the device once it becomes available.

The V10 boasts a sturdy frame made of SAE grade 316L stainless steel and a back cover of super grippy, super scratch-resistant DuraSkin plastic, making it a perfect option for someone who needs a device that can endure more wear-and-tear than your average phone.

What’s more is that the LG V10 has not two, but three high definition cameras. The two front-facing cameras actually work together in an elegant solution to create wide-angle selfies without that awful fishbowl effect.

Another cool thing about the LG V10 is its always-on second screen that runs across the top like a ticker, displaying notifications and offering customizable app shortcuts. You can know what’s going on in a glance without having to power up and unlock your device or exit out of your favorite app or game.

Altogether, the LG V10’s specs combine to make a serious badass of a travel companion. It focuses on durability and high video quality, which is exactly what you want if you’re touring Athens or hiking the Appalachians. It also has features that allow you to instantly upload photos, videos, and automatically generated highlight reels to social media.

And what else do you need when you’re traveling abroad and documenting your experiences on the web?

Data. Lots and lots of data.

Many of life’s best moments are captured while you’re traveling, and T-Mobile offers unlimited data in texting in over 140 countries. U.S. T-Mobile subscribers are also covered with 4G LTE data and unlimited calls and texts at the same rates as in the States, so if you’re an American who likes to hop the border for vacation, T-Mobile might be a good carrier option for you.

The carrier is now offering pre-registration for the LG V10. Anyone excited about the V10, who is due for an upgrade, or is looking to change carriers in the near future, should head over and check it out.

Sony reportedly looking into new ventures, partnerships and sales for their mobile division

SONY Brand Shot logo CES 2014-3

Sony’s mobile division has been suffering over the past few years, and the company may be looking into a new venture to turn their business around. In a recent report, Sony is said to be exploring other options including new business partnerships and even a sale when it comes to the company’s mobile division. The report from Reuters doesn’t name any specific deals or avenues Sony is looking towards, but we do know that the electronics giant is looking for new ventures to save their dying mobile branch. Sony CEO, Kazuo Hirai, explains that “the mobile and TV businesses both require a drastic overhaul.” He goes on to say, “Without drastic reforms such as joint ventures or alliances, they will both be in the red three years from now.”

Sony has been largely focusing on high-end mobile phones and cost cutting over the past few years, and it’s apparent that these attempts to save money aren’t warranting any results. At CES 2015, Hirai elaborated on the company’s status to a group of reporters:

Electronics in general, along with entertainment and finance, will continue to be an important business. But within that there are some operations that will need to be run with caution – and that might be TV or mobile, for example.

All of these alternate business ventures haven’t spawned completely out of the blue, though. In late 2012, Sony moved its headquarters to Japan and vowed to cut 1,000 jobs by the year 2014. The effort didn’t produce many results because Sony later reported a $ 1.7 billion loss due to poor smartphone sales in late 2014. If that didn’t make a big difference, Sony has also recently planned to slim their smartphone line down to hopefully return some sort of profit.

Sony looking into other business opportunities seems to be a last-ditch effort on Hirai’s part to turn the company’s mobile division around. For now, only time will tell what the company will do to increase profits.
